Welcome to Probus Club Flagstaff Hill

Probus is an association of active retirees who join together in clubs. Its basic purpose is to provide for its members regular opportunities to keep their minds active, expand their interests and to enjoy the fellowship of new friends.

Probus clubs were formed to provide a means of bridging the gap between the working environment and retirement where professional, business and other men can meet and share a few hours each month in fellowship.

The title PROBUS is an abbreviation of the two words Professional and Business. However membership is not restricted to these two groups and any man is welcome to join.

The Probus Club of Flagstaff Hill (men’s club)  meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month in the Happy Valley Church of Christ, 179 Hub Drive, Aberfoyle Park at 9.45 am until 12.00 noon.

The Flagstaff Hill Club had its annual BBQ on Thursday 25 March 2021, after missing this event last year due to COVID.  It was a great time for members and partners to social mix again for friendship, fellowship and fun.  Our member Maurie, entertained us with his piano accordion, see the video below.  There was even a proposal (tongue in cheek), but the outcome is not known.  Here are photos of this outing.

The Probus Flagstaff Hill club held its AGM on Thursday 11 March 2021.  Below is the club’s new management committee for 2021/2022.  The club also inducted its latest member Malcolm Keam.  Welcome Malcolm to the club.  This gives the club 68 members, plus two non-active members.

The Club inducted three new members at its January 2021 General Meeting.  A warm welcome to the Flagstaff Hill Probus Club, Richard Rake, John Kimber and Paul Cheesman.

The Flagstaff Hill Probus Club celebrated it’s 37 Birthday on Thursday 10 December 2020, dispite the Covid19 restrictions.  The Club’s birthday cake was cut by Life Member Ross Garrard and our newest member Maurie Lateu.  After the club’s meeting, members, partners and visitors were entertained by “Mary and the Boys”.  A great time was had by all, including Christmas sing alongs.

The Club’s speaker in September 2020 was Rae Campbell who has been involved in wildlife rescue since she was three.  Rae spoke to us about the life of Koalas, particularly in South Australia and the rescue of such creatures.  Rae even brought her friend along as pictured, which she rescued and raised from a baby joey koala.

The Club held its annual general meeting on Thursday 12 March 2020.  Jerry Vallance was elected as president.  Below are photos of Jerry Vallance being congratulated by now past president Stephen Lockwood and members of the Club’s new Management Committee.

The Club held a promotion day on 7 February 2020 at the Flagstaff Hill Shopping Centre to attract new members to the Club.  Club Members handed out information about Probus and the Club to the general public.  The response was very positive.  Another promotion day was held on 21 Febrauary 2020 at the same shopping centre.  The Ladies Probus Club of Flagstaff Hill also join us to promote both clubs.

The Club’s celebrated it’s 36 Birthday on 12 December 2019.
